Adoption Information!
Pet Adoption
At PAWS Darwin, we aim to find the best matched home for our pets the first time around.
PAWS Darwin encourages a healthy, happy and balanced relationship between a family and their pet. To achieve this, prior to an adoption of a PAWS pet we have all adopters complete an adoption interview with a PAWS staff member. These sessions are aimed at educating our adoptive families on a wide range of aspects that they may encounter when adopting a shelter pet into their lives.
PAWS Darwin discourages the impulse purchasing of domestic pets, and through our pre adoption interviews we are educating people and helping to think their decision and choices through before committing to a pet that may not be the best match, or a pet that they may not be ready for.
Home Trial Process
We offer a 3 day home trial for our pets over 6 months of age who have been desexed. Due to younger pets not having complete vaccination coverage we are unable to allow them out on home trial.
Our home trial process does include the adoption fee of the pet plus an additional $50 deposit, which is refunded if the trial does not work out. If the trial is successful the deposit is refunded.

Surrendering your pet
PAWS Darwin do accept surrendered pets from owners although kennel space can be very limited at times. We do charge surrender fees and these go towards the animals care, feeding and veterinary treatments whilst with us. Please feel free to phone or email us and have a chat with our staff members about rehoming options and advice.
Please note that surrendering your pet to an animal shelter or rescue should be the very last resort. Whilst we do understand that circumstances change, we simply cannot guarantee your pet into the rehoming program if they do not pass through behavior and veterinary assessments, or limited adoption space. We urge you to rehome your pet individually through other channels available. Pet Rescue have fantastic articles written specifically to assist you should you need to rehome your pet. Currently, PAWS Darwin no longer take in stray pets. If you do have a stray dog from the Palmerston area, please contact the Palmerston City Council on 89359977. If you have a found cat or dog in the Darwin area, please phone the Darwin City Council on 89300600, for others please contact the RSPCA on 89843795 or the Litchfield Council on 89830600. All stray animals should be reported to the proper channels to give owners the best chance of being reunited with them.
If you do find a lost pet, or lose your own, please register your pet with Top End Lost and Found, a website dedicated to lost and found pets in the Northern Territory. Visit www.telaf.wordpress.com
